New Term, New Membership: Time to Renew or Join Scottish Gymnastics

New Scottish Gymnastics membership year - registrations now open at Auchterarder Gymnastics Club, starting 1st September

Gymnast training on the bar at Auchterarder Gymnastics Club, an active Scottish Gymnastics membership clubThe new term is well and truly underway, and it’s brilliant to see our gymnasts back on the mat, beam and bars! Before the excitement of the term takes over, we need every family to help us with one important job: making sure your gymnast’s Scottish Gymnastics membership is active.

Today marks the start of the new British Gymnastics membership year, which automatically activates your Scottish Gymnastics membership too – and it’s a mandatory requirement for every gymnast training at Auchterarder Gymnastics Club, and at any other affiliated club in Scotland. This is separate from, and in addition to, your child’s club membership here at Auchterarder Gymnastics Club; it’s the insurance cover that allows your gymnast to train. If you’re a returning family, now’s the time to check your membership hasn’t lapsed over the summer and renew it. If you’re brand new to the club this term, welcome! Getting your membership sorted is the first step to joining in one of our classes.

Why Scottish Gymnastics Membership Matters

It might feel like just another form to fill in, but membership is what makes safe, structured, high-quality gymnastics possible for every child at our club. Here’s what it gives your gymnast:

  • Personal insurance cover – comprehensive liability and personal accident protection during training, events and travel.
  • Competition eligibility – access to official regional, national and international pathways, alongside joint affiliation with British Gymnastics.
  • Trusted safeguarding – affiliated clubs like ours operate under vetted child protection standards, trained welfare officers and qualified coaches.
  • Development pathways – structured progression routes, youth leadership awards and talent development programmes across every discipline.

What Scottish Gymnastics Membership Means for Recreational & Junior Gymnasts

Most of our gymnasts train in recreational and junior classes rather than competitive squads, and membership matters just as much here. A few things are worth knowing:

  • Individual insurance activation protects your child personally against injury, and protects the club, during weekly recreational training.
  • Two taster sessions are allowed before formal registration – so brand new gymnasts can try a class or two before committing to annual membership.
  • Bronze membership is a lower-cost tier designed specifically for general participants and our under-5s pre-school gymnasts.
  • Welfare protections are mandatory club-wide, with all staff vetted under the PVG scheme and accredited child protection officers in place.

Please Don’t Let Your Gymnast Miss a Class

Membership compliance is checked at every level, from Scottish Gymnastics’ own annual club audits right down to our coaches’ registers at the door. Without active membership, a gymnast simply can’t be permitted onto the apparatus, and none of us want a child turned away from a class they’ve been looking forward to.

It also matters for peace of mind: without membership, your child has no personal accident cover if they’re injured, they’d be excluded from any gradings, events or competitive pathways, and it puts real legal and financial liability on our coaches and committee. Renewing or joining is a small step that protects your gymnast and our whole club community. If you have questions about bookings or cancellations, our FAQ page has more information.

Returning Gymnasts: Renew Your Scottish Gymnastics Membership

If your child trained with us last term, please take two minutes to log in to British Gymnastics and check your membership status. The new membership year starts today, and it’s easy for a membership to quietly lapse over the summer holidays without anyone noticing until it’s too late. If yours has expired, renew today so your gymnast doesn’t miss a single session this term.

New to the Club? Register with British Gymnastics Now

Welcome to the Auchterarder Gymnastics Club family! With the new term underway, now is the perfect time to get your gymnast registered and booked into one of our classes. Remember, you’re welcome to enjoy up to two taster sessions before you need to take out membership, so there’s no pressure – just come along, join in, and see how much they love it first.

You can register or renew online with British Gymnastics here: Register or Renew with British Gymnastics. This automatically activates your Scottish Gymnastics membership too – there’s no need to register separately with Scottish Gymnastics.

One More Thing: Please Update Your ClassForKids Profile

Once you have your Scottish Gymnastics membership number, please log in to ClassForKids and add or update it on your child’s profile. This lets our coaches confirm everyone’s membership quickly and easily before every session, and helps us make sure your gymnast is never at risk of being turned away from class simply because their details are out of date.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our club and helping us keep every gymnast safe, insured and ready to thrive this term. If you have any questions about membership, taster sessions or updating your ClassForKids profile, our part-time office team is happy to help – call us on 01764 664 580, or get in touch here.
